Vegetation’s influence on fire behavior goes beyond just being fuel

چکیده
Abstract Background The structure and function of fire-prone ecosystems are influenced by many interacting processes that develop over varying time scales. Fire creates both instantaneous long-term changes in vegetation (defined as live, dead, decomposing plant material) through combustion, heat transfer to living tissues, subsequent patterns recovery. While fuel available for combustion may be relative the amount vegetation, it is equally instructive evaluate how physical other characteristics influence fire dynamics, these interactions change between events. This paper presents a conceptual framework not only embodies legacy previous fires but environment drives behavior beyond its source. Results environmental factors affect post-fire trajectory dynamics themselves, we present describing vegetation’s structural control local microclimate fluid fire-induced flows, ecosystem atmospheric processes. Shifting our focus from fuels allows us integrate spatial temporal feedbacks fire, soil, atmosphere across approach synthesizes flammability science, on behavior, occur within regime. Conclusions We conclude including prediction ecological effects, should broadened include dynamic interact with role fuel. Interactions of insects, fire and climate on fuel loads and fire behavior in mixed conifer forest
Interactions of insects, fire and climate on fuel loads and fire behavior in mixed conifer forest Abstract Mixed-conifer forests in the interior Pacific Northwest are subject to sporadic outbreaks of the western spruce budworm, the most destructive defoliator in western North America. Such outbreaks usually occur synchronously over broad regions and lead to widespread decreases in growth rates ...
متن کاملFire Behavior Simulation from Global Fuel and Climatic Information
Large-scale fire danger assessment has become increasingly relevant in the past few years, and is usually based on weather information. Still, fuel characteristics also play an important role in fire behavior. This study presents a fire behavior simulation based on a global fuelbed dataset and climatic and topographic information. The simulation was executed using the Fuel Characteristic Classi...
متن کاملMultimedia Goes Beyond Content
T o many people in this community, “multimedia” means multiple digitalmedia types, such as audio, images, and video. From audio/visual (AV) media, researchers can extract various AV features—for example, melfrequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) from audio, color moments from images, or motion vectors from videos—to represent the AV multimedia. Significant research has been done in feature extr...
